The City to Surf is fast approaching and training has started.

Parramatta’s Homeless Street Count

Parramatta’s Homeless Street Count

Parramatta City Councillor Scott Lloyd was joined by Lord Mayor Clr John Chedid and over 90 volunteers in the second Homeless street count.

Parramatta’s second Homeless Street Count was conducted on the night of Monday 7^th February, 2011 and into the early hours of Tuesday 8^th February between 12.30am and 2.30am. The aim of the count is to collect accurate data on the number of people sleeping rough in the Parramatta Local Government Area (LGA) in order to measure progress towards the reduction of homelessness.

The results of the 2010 count identified a total of 366 homeless residents, comprising of 81 rough sleepers (primary homelessness) and 285 sleeping in emergency and crisis accommodation (secondary homelessness).

The results of this count are in the process of being calculated but Councillor Lloyd was surprised to find no rough sleepers in his two sections. Councillor Lloyd said “it was a lovely night and I was expected to see rough sleepers in several locations.” “I think the hot weather last week was a factor with some homeless leaving Parramatta looking for a cool place to sleep in Sydney.”

Parramatta City Council will use the data collected from the Street Count for the benefit of people who are homeless in the Parramatta local government area. Results will be used to inform appropriate responses to homelessness and to monitor the effectiveness of these responses. All information collected will be non‐identifying and locations of rough sleepers will not be publicly released, except where agencies are required to respond to the needs and best interests of the rough sleepers.

Ban on All brothels and Sex related services as a land use in the Parramatta LGA.

MEDIA RELEASE - 18 OCTOBER 2010

Parramatta City Councillors voted 9 to 5 to ban all brothels and sex related services as a land use in the Parramatta LGA.
Clr Lloyd moved the motion in tonight’s meeting as away to give power back to the residents.
“The residents do not wish to have brothels in their suburbs and city. The state govern has placed Sex service premises in the LEP frame work. ” Said Clr Lloyd
Clr Lloyd dismissed the Labor Party’s support in debate for brothels in the Parramatta area saying “Councillors work in the public interest and the public has an interest in this issue and they do not want brothels in Parramatta. Clr Lloyd wants to see a more family friendly LGA “
Clr Lloyd’s also moved for the NSW state government and local MP's be asked to support this PCC LEP submission.

ParraMac 2010

ParraMac 2010

ParraMac is Parramatta’s celebration of the bicentenary of Lachlan Macquarie’s Governorship of NSW. Parramatta was the original seat of Macquarie’s Governorship.

Over the coming months a huge number of unique cultural events will take place in Parramatta to mark this important anniversary. Illuminated buildings, a street parade, workshops, exhibitions, performances, tours and talks will give you a whole new take on Governor Macquarie and his vision for Australia.

The Illumination of the buildings and street parade kicked off on Wednesday night.

A large amount of people came out on this cold night to see the parade and the wonderful images that were projected onto some of the most historical buildings in the Parramatta CBD.

Action Day Tackles Local Graffiti

State Members of Parliament and Parramatta City councillor’s teamed up with local residents to combat graffiti in Toongabbie.

Toongabbie’s McCoy Park was the focus in Parramatta for the Graffiti Action Day 2010, the Toongabbie site was just one of hundreds across NSW.

Local residents were encouraged to join in the clean up campaign with free brushes and paint being offered to improve the aesthetics of the residential area.

“The graffiti on the fences along the walking track looks disgusting and unsightly, we have visitors from other areas using our bike track and this is the welcome they receive, a wall of filth. Councillor Lloyd said.”

“This event brought the community together with the common goal of cleaning up the criminals marks off our local suburb. It was so encouraging to see so much graffiti painted away and cleaned off in a short period of time. Said Councillor Lloyd

“Graffiti removal kits are available from Parramatta City Council & I also urge residents to report graffiti to crime stoppers on 1800 333 000 said Councillor Lloyd”

Councillor Lloyd was joined by fellow ward Councillors Bide & Barber, Deputy Lord Mayor Clr Chiang Lim & Clr McDermott.

The area around McCoy Park was selected as the main site for Graffiti Action Day in the Parramatta area after a call for nominations by Keep Australia Beautiful NSW. Local residents in the most graffiti hit streets adjoining the park will have been contacted with the offer of equipment to help with any further clean up.

Graffiti Action Day was a joint initiative between Parramatta City Council Keep Australia Beautiful NSW, and the Department of Justice and Attorney General.

Australia Day 2010

Parramatta kicked off the Australia Day celebrations in Sydney with a magnificent hot air balloon display. Thousands of early starters (including myself) entered the park from 5.30am to admire the balloons slowly rise into the sky.

The hot air balloons were just the start of 15 hours of family entertainment at Parramatta Park.

The Village Hub kept the whole family entertained for hours with a huge range of rides and amusements, and even skate board and bike ramp demonstrations. The free live music and entertainment was great as well as a wide range of food and wines to choose from.

The night time concert was an outstanding show of Australian talent with performances from Justine Clarke, The Robertson Brothers & Jessica Mauboy.

The night concluded with a 20 minute Fireworks display at 9pm.

Parramatta showed once again it is the best place to host major events in Sydney.
